New Hot Wolf-shifters Coming Soon!

I'm working on edits this week for a new wolf-shifters series that will debut next spring.

I've learned to love edits. I use them as an opportunity to see my story through someone else's eyes, make corrections and accept helpful input. Edits are always a little stressful. This edit is interesting to me because so many new factors are coming into play.

First, this is a new-to-me publisher with a different house style than I have used before. There's lots to learn and un-learn : )

Second, this book is part of shared world and multi-author series on a much larger scale than I have ever attempted. There's a lot of checking in with others and many small adjustments to make.

Third, edits are always put me into a monk-like retreat-to-my-writing-cave-in-silence sort of mode. Typically during an edit week, I carefully plan my schedule, family meals and hours away from the house. All of that is impossible in my current situation. With my sister's in-home hospice care, family members come and go from my house at will. The phone starts ringing at 8 a.m. and stops at 9 p.m. I have to stop and do something for someone, constantly. I've had to face these edits for what they are, a blessed distraction, a treat and diversion. Even though it's hard to concentrate I am so genuinely happy to have this work.

I cannot wait to start the new books in 2015!

Summer Schedule

My normal writing schedule this summer simply doesn't exist, but I'm getting some work done behind the scenes.

Soon, I'll start edits for a multi-author wolf-shifter project that has been super fun to work on. I love the other authors I've had the opportunity to work with, and I have a second book in the series planned.

I also received my gorgeous book cover for the series this week. For now the series is secret and I can't wait to share it.

This is NOT the book cover but this is the model I chose, Stfano Cavoretto. I like the intensity of his eyes and he had the dark wolf look I wanted.

I also have three novellas due  in September-October. Everyday I work a little on one of them. I'm so grateful to have something fun to escape into.

This summer I'm prodding like a tortoise toward the finish line.

Happy Fourth of July!

The Fourth of July has always been a special holiday for me. I'm a July birthday, I love fireworks, summer cookouts and everything that comes with them.

It was at a Fourth of July cookout fifteen years ago, that I found myself savaging a bag of corn chips like an animal and realized I might be pregnant. My husband and I stopped at a drugstore on our way home from watching a firework display, bought a pregnancy test, saw the double purple lines and cried with joy.

This Fourth of July is extra special too. As you may already know from my Facebook page my sister Christy has cancer. It's inoperable and she was released from the hospital to do hospice in my home. Judging from the condition she was in June 1st, all was lost. She was taken off dialysis and I was told she was in renal failure and had about a week to live. Her birthday was June 21st and I never dreamed Christy would survive to see it.

Guess what? Christy's birthday came and went. I had my own nursing routine to perform at home. Everyday she seems to be doing a little better. Her kidneys are now healthy and fully functioning on their own. A few of her other chronic issues including headaches, fever, infections, bedsores etc.. were healed and the medications associated with them were ditched. Her mind cleared and she became herself again.

At that point I realized I had a half-healthy person on my hands who deserved a chance to try a few of the alternative cancer treatments that are only offered to the terminally ill. I figured why not, we have nothing lose. I view this with no false hope but merely as another adventure into the unknown with my sister who loves adventures and trying anything new. We start on Thursday. If I get a little more quality time with my sister and relieve some of her pain, I'll consider it a big win.
