My Eye's On Hawkeye!

My Mother’s Day was really a good one. I got a big bundle of sunflowers, and spent the day with my son and husband doing what I love to do on Sunday afternoons, we went out for grilled fish tacos and saw a movie.

I’m sure you can guess which movie we saw—The Avengers!

I loved it. The theater was packed. As you already know this movie has something for everyone and that’s why it’s doing such good box office.

I grew up drawing Marvel characters on my school book covers and any clean sheet of paper I could find. I especially loved Thor, no surprises there. I learned to love Iron Man when Robert Downey Jr. took on the role and made it his. I thought Chris Evans’ Captain America was subtle and amazing for a character that has been handled poorly in the past. Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk was wonderfully moody, smart and funny.

But I wasn’t prepared for how much I would enjoy Hawkeye.

I’ll credit Jeremy Renner’s terrific acting with making Hawkeye a fascinating character, that’s almost all sub-text. Hawkeye doesn’t burst onto the screen and start doing his superhero thing. He's just there as a strong presence and the viewer has to figure him out.

Hawkeye’s character is doubly challenged because he gets compromised and turns on his super-peers. During that time Jeremy Renner has no dialog and his expressive eyes are completely masked in “Evil-icy-blue-I’ve-been-compromised” contact lens, and he still gets subtitles across.

Hawkeye and Scarlett Johansson’s character Black Widow have history and big chemistry and I think it would be crazy for Disney/Marvel Productions to not give those two their own movie.

What do you think? Have you seen the Avengers?
