My first erotic romance was released in December 2011, and
numbers two and three are due out this summer. So I haven't been in the market
for that long. Yet already, I have been subjected innumerable times to
"the question".
"How do you come
up with your ideas?" Wink, wink. "Your sex life must be
amazing."
Seriously? My favourite answer—preferably right after
they've taken a sip from their drink—is "Actually, I'm a virgin."
It seems ridiculous for people to assume I have no
imagination simply because I write erotic romance. Do people ask Stephen King
if his life is a nightmare of strange and terrifying occurrences?
Consider this: Inter-Office
Relations, currently available from The Wild Rose Press, kicks off with
Jeannie propositioning her office crush, Tim. They get it on in the conference
room, and several other interesting places. Did I ever do that? No. Did I want
to? Definitely. Tim is loosely based on a guy I had a crush on when I worked in
the corporate world.
One Night in a Bar,
due June 25th from Total-E-Bound, is about Karen, who goes to a bar
she normally wouldn't frequent after finding her boyfriend in bed with two
other men. She dances with a sexy stranger and bangs him in the alley behind
the bar. Did I ever do that? No. Did I want to? Only in my dreams. In reality,
the idea scares the crap out of me J
Diving In Deep,
part of The Wild Rose Press's Boys of Summer series and due out—you guessed
it—later this summer, is a m/m/m story about Cameron, who takes time off from
his life to reinvent himself and meets Jake and Troy, the sexy duo running a
reef diving company. There's no way in hell this one could be based on my sex
life—I don't have the requisite body parts.
Writing erotic romance means that I'm open to more than just
the missionary position (although, if done right, missionary can be a real good
time). It means I'm not afraid to go into adult toy stores, and that I'll admit
to owning a vibrator—several, actually. It does not mean that I spend my days
in a sex swing experimenting with toys while practicing positions from the Kama
Sutra. Although, that does sound fun...
