It's almost a New Year....

What are your New Year Resolutions?

Mine are simple...finish off a few wips....lose 50 pounds...figure out how to avoid candy at all costs...the usual stuff.  The usual resolutions that fall by the wayside within a few weeks...or even days...after the New Year rings in.  But I do fully intend to finish at least ONE of those wips.  Don't have much of a choice.  I like paying the bills and eating too much to not do that.

Now that Christmas is over and the tree is safely tucked away in its packing box for another year, it's time to stop putting off the work...and get down to it once more.  I've been such a lazy woman the past year.  But I need to get energized and get crackin'...

So if you don't hear from me as often, know that I am buried in my wips, trying to finish at least one by the end of January.

Have a marvelous New Year...

Happy Boxing Day! Why Do I Feel Like I've Been Punched In The Face?

It’s a British tradition to give the hard working household help the day off after a hectic Christmas season, pay them a bonus and let them relax.

So why can’t I relax today? I’m an under appreciated house servant. I’m not British but I would love to get paid a bonus for all the extra work I did this season and take a full day off, but I know it’s not going to happen.

In the USA the day after Christmas is a department store Armageddon that almost rivals Black Friday in its intensity. Okay, that’s not quite true, only the running of the bulls in Pamplona Spain rivals Black Friday shopping, but December 26th is close.

The day after Christmas in the USA is the day most stores will see the highest number of returns and exchanges, which results in long lines at the checkout, frustrating searches on store computers for items with lost receipts and a lot of grouchy shoppers in general.

Why do stores put up with and even encourage this behavior? Because most people who exchange items for store credit immediately spend a far greater amount on store merchandise. Even exchanges are rare most customers trade up.

Christmas just ended and my son is already hounding me to drive him to the mall as soon as they open and help him exchange gift items and buy what he really wants—gamer's crappolla.

I’ll be asked to help him exchange and dispose of handsome clothing he needs and would look good in—in exchange for Microsoft points to buy on-line zombie game time—useless stuff.

What’s worse is I know from experience that every exchange will take about a half hour but the lines at the game store will be tremendous. Last year we waited at least an hour to buy a simple thing. Today won’t be fun but at least my son and I will be together and we can talk. Sadly I’m sure the only thing my son will want to talk about is games and zombies. Oh well.

How was your holiday season this year?

Blurb:
Trust isn't something Patience Middleton gives very often, especially in the bedroom. She's been looked at as a slut for wanting more than a vanilla sex life. When she meets William LaBorde he's offering everything she wants which is a whole lot more than she can handle. He wants to know all her deepest darkest desires, plus he's sexy, sweet and willing to make all her fantasies come true.
Patience gives in briefly until William gives her a familiar look of what she perceives as disgust. It takes some doing, but eventually he convinces her his only wish is to make her happy in the bedroom, against the wall or under the Christmas tree.
Things go awry again, though, when Patience's dream fantasy turns into a nightmare. Can William save the day and will she finally give herself to him; body, heart and soul?

Excerpt:

“What brings you here tonight?” She didn’t notice a wedding band, but that didn’t mean anything. He probably had a small child who wanted one of the hot new toys. She didn’t envy him. She didn’t have the first clue what children liked. If it weren’t for her sister’s request, she’d likely just give Kyle a gift card and be done with it.
Maneuvering the toy department never had been her thing.
“My friend’s child could use some cheering up. Father’s been gone for a bit.”
Was that sadness in his eyes? Her heart swelled; his story touched her. He truly cared for his friend’s child.
“Funny, me too. My nephew. Do you have any children?” Nothing like getting right to the point. Not that she wouldn’t be interested in him if he had children; she’d prefer her man to be completely hers.
What the hell was she thinking? She wasn’t going to be dating this man. She’d just met him. She knew nothing about him except he had a soft side toward children. And she certainly wasn’t going to engage in a relationship with him. She didn’t need the headaches, but cozying up to his big, strong body did sound appealing.
“No kids. You?”
“Nah. I’m not ready for them yet. Maybe in five, six years.” She figured thirty-five was a good age to have children. By then she’d be done traveling or doing whatever the hell she wanted.
“Seems reasonable. I like the idea of children now, but I’d be willing to wait too.” He tilted his head and flashed a grin.
Patience laughed despite herself. He was flirting. She liked that.
“When should we get married?” Again, she couldn’t believe the words slipping from her mouth.
He pretended to look at a watch on his wrist. “I’m free in a few hours. I’m sure there’s a justice of the peace out there willing to perform the ceremony.”
“I believe my calendar is free too.” Patience played along with his game.
“Seriously, though, I’d like to take you to breakfast or coffee after this, if you’re really free.”
How did she answer that? She was free, but should she go with him, alone? He was funny and cute. It was just breakfast, after all. They’d be in a public place.
“Sure, why not?”
“Great! Do me a favor. Keep my spot, and I’ll be right back.”
“Okay.” She found it strange that he decided to take off after agreeing to breakfast, but he said he’d be right back. Hopefully no one would get upset when he returned and cut the line. He wouldn’t really be cutting, but those who weren’t here to see him wouldn’t realize that.
She watched as he jogged off into the parking lot. She lost him in the mix of cars.
When twenty minutes passed and he didn’t return, she wondered if William had been real or a figment of her imagination. She didn’t have time to worry, though. The store would open, and she had to fight off the cold numbing her toes.

Santa, Baby, I want a new convertible, too. It's true.

http://tinyurl.com/bt6z5tb
But wait! I have one of those.
And I hear all that sun is bad for my skin.
So how about you bring me a new fur coat?
Nope. Got one of those, too, and my green pals tell me I shouldn't wear it. In fact, they get mad.
Okay. So I could use a new bathrobe.
Made from renewable bamboo?
Okay...um.
What colors do you have, Santa?
Beige?
Sick looking beige?
forget it.
How about more perfume?
No, I don't bathe in it, just spritz it on. Yeah, it is expensive...but wait. You what?
You think it's bad for others who have allergies?
okay.
Well. Can I just wear it in my own home?
I can!
Terrific. Bring it on.
What else would I like in my stocking?
World peace.
Hard to get, I know.
All those folks who pick fights with others are tough to convince. But you say some things are worth fighting for?
I agree.
But not everything is worth fighting about.
Like who gets to vote. When. Where.
Who gets to have citizenship. For what reasons. When and how often.
I thought we were talking about giving gifts to each other that matter??? No?
Just opinions that we can fight over at the Christmas day dinner table?
yuck.
Please.
I thought all that ended Nov. 9.
It didn't?
Well, I am declaring a day of peace.
Forget the other gifts. I don't want 'em. If I can have peace on earth for one day, then forget the convertible and the coat, the perfume and don't fill my stocking.
Give me peace.
Thanks, Santa. And next year? Get this right waaaaay before December 25, okay?

The solstice has passed...another cycle has begun...

Jon Paul shared his 2013 calendar on Facebook...

So I am sharing it here.  Just enlarge it and print it and enjoy.  Enjoy the new cycle of existence that we have begun...and get ready for the wonderful Christmas holiday that is just around the corner...

Take care of those you hold dear...share with those who have less...and speak to those you have remained aloof to for the past few years.  It is a time of renewal...of love.

Pray for the children...and for the parents...and link hands to protect them in the future.

Hugs,

Fran

Merry Christmas, Winter Solstice and Happy 14th B'ak'tun!

Hello everyone. I want to share a little of my good news that I received a contract for a new Ellora's Cave paranormal novel. I can't wait to share more details about it and I promise to do that early next year.

Hopefully I will finish and submit another short novel to Ellora's Cave before year's end. If I can do that I'll feel great about it!

This blog originally appeared at Wren Doloro's blog earlier this week. Wren is a mystical lady and aspiring writer and it was a delight to visit with her. The theme was "hope" and here is what I shared with Wren:

No matter what holidays you celebrate or don’t celebrate December is a month of hope and always has been. Why? Because in most places in the western world December comes during the harshest, darkest days of winter. The sunlight dwindles, the days get shorter until the December 21st winter solstice arrives and turns the sun around. But even after the solstice brings a return to longer days, everyone knows the coldest most challenging days of winter still lie ahead.

The heart of winter is when we most need hope.

For a moment imagine yourself in our ancestor’s place. Imagine an existence without modern medicine or central heating. Imagine homes where the wash water froze every night in its bucket. Imagine the inconvenience of no transportation beyond horses, boats or foot and little or no communication with distant neighbors. As December’s days grew shorter and darker imagine the worries, “Did I plan well? Did I put enough aside? Do I have a loved one who might not survive the stress of winter?”

Not that long ago everyone in the northern latitudes spent winter this way and I think that’s why a celebration of hope in the month of December is so important. We bring fresh cut evergreen trees indoors as symbols of eternal life in the face of physical hardship. We light candles and hang Christmas lights to ward off the growing darkness. We bless the less fortunate, wish each other well and practice generosity during meager times because those practices have served humanity well for countless winters.

Here we are days away from the winter solstice of 2012, which coincides with the end of the Mayan’s long count calendar. December 21st 2012 marks the end of the thirteenth b’ak’tun and the conclusion of the fourth world. According to the Mayan there were three previous worlds that didn't work out so well and had to be destroyed. The fourth world, our world succeeded and humans were allowed to safely inhabit it.

A “b’ak’tun” is a 5125-year cycle. Chunky 5,125 year cycles sound impressive until you realize the Mayans really, really loved to count and they did it with gusto. For instance there is a carved Stela in Coba that marks the date of creation at 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13,13, 13, 13,13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13, 13.0.0.0.0
Or 2021×13×360 days or we could say the universe has 2 quintillion times more years left on it than it has already spent.

In other words, that ridiculous number predicts December 21 2012 it’s not the end of days, not by a long shot. This is good news. Apparently we’re living in a low mileage universe and hopefully the best years are yet to come. We quintillion years ahead.

Let's put a single b'ak'tun in perspective. Subtracting a b’ak’tun from our familiar historical timeline would place us at August 11, 3114 BC.  That date is contemporary with the infancy of Egypt’s earliest dynasties when they were just beginning to experiment with building crooked mud-brick pyramids. 5125 years ago the great stone pyramids had yet to rise. Humanity has accomplished a lot in 5125 years and the Mayans predict many, many b’ak’tuns ahead.

Honestly I think the Mayans would be appalled to be associated with the end of the world. They were very forward looking people. For goodness sake they even looked past the date they stopped existing as a culture by nearly a millennia. The second insult is the calendar that is continually presented to us, as the “End Date Mayan Calendar” is almost always the Aztec calendar. The Aztecs were a very different culture contemporary with the conquest of the New World. The Mayans and the Aztecs deserve to be recognized as separate and vivid cultures.

What does all this mean during the Christmas season when I will also be reflecting on the miracle of a divine child’s birth?

Have hope. I know things are far tougher for most of us than they been in other years but don't allow fear to drive you. Have hope that our world is not ending, evil will not win and better times lie ahead. Have hope that others who lived long before you had it far worse and still found a reason to celebrate. Have hope that you're resilient enough, determined enough and caring enough to make 2013 one of the most pivotal years of your life.

This is my blessing to you this holiday season, may you have HOPE and a beautiful 2013 ahead.

Is it Saturday again?

Just spelunking in my bookshelves for something old to re-read...

Do you do that, too?  This is only one set of many shelves in my storage room and bedroom...most of the books are in boxes in a storage unit, because I don't have room in the house anymore.  Oh...the book on the second shelf that is wrapped in plastic?  That's my grandmother's 1942 cookbook that shows you how to render fat, how to make your own candles, and how to make soap, as well as how to make from scratch so many things.  Love that old book.

In fact, I just went through my shelves to find some nice, nearly new, mint copies of dozens of books to give to the women's shelter and to the libraries in this area.  I never realized how many of my books on these shelves have covers painted by Jon Paul!  Holy moly!  That guy is prolific, isn't he?

Every Christmas I try to go through my books and give gifts of the nicest ones.  I don't bother to try and give away my own books anymore...nobody enters the contests when I try. (Is that a hint. or what?)

A dear pal of mine, Cris Anson, ships many many books off to the military every Christmas.  I commend that action.  We often forget that there are people who don't have ready access to books, and who might appreciate a few.  Not sure how many of mine they would want, because the books I write are not exactly on the proper reading list for military personnel. LOL!

Just ten more days until Christmas, folks...so finish up your shopping, and get on your knees to thank God that your kids and grandkids are safe and sound in your arms...pray for those who have lost their precious ones...and pray for an end to the senseless rages that kill so many innocent victims daily.

God bless us, everyone...

Hugs,

Fran Lee

Now here's Tina!

The Best Christmas Present of All…

At least for a writer. J

I didn’t plan it this way, but this month I have two releases coming out from two different publishers. Squeeeeee!

On December 18, my erotic paranormal Come Fill Me hits the stores (also available for pre-order). It’s Book One in The Prophecy series, available from Samhain Publishing and other fine online retailers. On December 28, my erotic contemporary, Losing Control, will be available from EC and other great ebook outlets. Losing Control is Book Two in my Appointment with Pleasure series.

What a month. Thank you Samhain, EC and Santa!  J

COME FILL ME

Book One – The Prophecy series

Two men will stop at nothing to have her gift, her desire…and her love.

Years ago, with the healing abilities afforded by her blend of Aztec and extraterrestrial blood, Liz was free to do as she wished. Now she is trapped in a blood feud, forced to heal one of her clan’s most dangerous rivals so they can exploit his gift of prophecy.
As she drapes her nude body over his, the rush of his returning strength overwhelms her, and his stunningly sensual caress pushes her to her sexual limit.
Zeke Neekoma never expected to hunger for a woman he’s supposed to hate, but now that he’s tasted her, he has no intention of denying himself the pleasure of her body—or of kidnapping his enemy’s most cherished plaything.
Brought to Zeke’s stronghold to heal his brother, Jacob, Liz surrenders her body’s most traitorous needs to the unrestrained desires of two powerful men. And the brothers fill the lonely void she has too long endured.
But her clan doesn’t intend to let her go without a fight…and the ecstasy that binds Liz to her lovers could be the thing that breaks them.

Product Warnings

Worlds collide when two Alpha males crave a woman they shouldn’t have. Their dominance and desire knows no limits, culminating in sex so torrid this babe’s never gonna be the same…or free of one brother’s touch.

EXCERPT:

Naked, he lay in the center of the king-sized bed. His breaths were quiet, his eyes closed, legs sprawled, one arm draped over his head as though he was sleeping.
The bullet holes in his muscular left pec contradicted that notion.
Forcing down a swallow, Liz pulled her attention from his wounds—three perfect black circles—to his face.
Her lips parted on a quiet sigh. Rarely had she seen a man wear such a look of serenity. So unlike the terror she’d witnessed on Carreon’s features or those of his men when they’d been so close to death.
Zeke Neekoma was different. The words boyish and innocent came to mind, which Liz dismissed quickly.
Looking to be in his early thirties, he was no boy. Nor was he innocent. His size, surely six-three, his sharp, masculine features and powerful form were perfect for battle against men and carnal sin with women.
Heat suffused Liz, making her limbs feel heavy and weak. She recalled what Carreon and his men had told her about Zeke, no doubt a mixture of truth and lies. Not knowing which was which, she regarded his sinewy legs, long cock and weighty balls as she moved deeper into the dimly lit room. Spanish-style lamps created pools of honeyed light, giving the space a sacred feel one might experience in a church. The cherry-wood four-poster dominated the sparsely furnished chamber, while a series of leather wing chairs—reserved for observers—circled the bed.
The man who’d been guarding Zeke left the room. Carreon and his men went to their seats, their weight causing the chairs’ legs to scrape against the polished hardwood floor.
For one foolish moment, Liz thought the intrusive noise would cause Zeke to open his eyes and lose his blissful expression. That he’d ask why they’d pulled him from such blessed rest and what appeared to be happiness.
This man didn’t want to be healed. Liz knew it in her soul; saw it in the upward curve of his beautiful mouth. Was he the same as her father, tired of fighting? Or was he welcoming the end so he could reunite with someone he’d loved?
His parents and siblings, perhaps…or a wife.
Liz studied his cock, its root nestled in a bush of black curls, his testicles lightly furred with short, dark hairs. Ones many women had surely licked, tasted, enjoyed, given his rough good looks and virile form.
Images rose in Liz’s mind. She pictured him standing before her, his size and manner imposing but not threatening, allowing genuine arousal, not feigned obedience, to guide the act. On her knees at his feet, she’d tend to him, cradling his sac in her palm, allowing its wrinkled skin to rest against her birthmark that proved she had the healing gift.
Would he sense the spark of energy her touch generated? Would he pull her power into himself?
If he did, Liz knew how she’d respond, parting her lips to deliver pleasure, drawing her tongue down his cock’s base to its plump head, tracing the prominent veins that snaked over the thick column, tasting its faint saltiness. Within her caress, his rod would lengthen and harden. Gratified at what she’d accomplished, she’d inhale deeply, filling herself with his musk, indulging in its unique fragrance as she licked his crown. Silky beyond expectation, the succulent flesh would fill her mouth as she coaxed him inside, opening her throat so he could slide into her, as deep as a man could go.

LOSING CONTROL

Book Two – Appointment with Pleasure series

When it comes to passion, there are no rules…

She wasn’t supposed to hunger for him. Tim Bellamy was off-limits to Catherine, a high-priced call girl with an uneasy past. Indulging in his raw desire shouldn’t have happened, especially at a District party attended by the nation’s elite. Tim doesn’t know she works for the agency. If he did…  That’s not something Catherine wants to confess. Drowning in his strength and heat, aching to see him again, she keeps her secret.
From old wealth, Tim has never met anyone quite like Catherine. Exotic, elegant, earthy, she’s the best of all worlds. Their evenings are sensual delights where voyeurism, bondage and a growing bond satisfy carnal needs and stir something deep within…until he stumbles upon the truth.
Shaken by her lies, Tim needs to prove the depth of Catherine’s lust and yearning once and for all. For him, their erotic adventure has only begun…

EXCERPT:

He was the one man she’d been forbidden to meet…to sleep with, exploring her most pressing carnal needs. With him, there would be many. Deep, hungry kisses, the feel of his nudity confining hers. His body hot, hard, demanding. His clean skin scented with musk.
At the thought of what she wasn’t allowed, Catherine Oliver whimpered.
He didn’t hear. He was in the foyer, at the bottom of the mansion’s sweeping staircase, one of tonight’s party attendees, not yet aware of her presence.
Good sense told Catherine to slip back into the powder room where she’d checked her makeup and hair a few minutes before. A group of women exited the spacious room now, some young, others matronly, all decked out in pricey gold necklaces, shimmering diamonds, rubies, pearls, designer silks and velvets. They left a trail of subtle perfume in their wake as they moved past her and the landing to the far end of the hall. Expensive fabrics swirled delicately around their ankles, a perfect match to their well-bred murmurs and subdued laughter.
Beneath it, Catherine heard Alexa Marsh’s warning in her mind.
“Tim Bellamy might be at the party this evening. He’s bad news, believe me. Stay away from him.”
Catherine didn’t retreat, not taking as much as a step back.
A lifetime of having others say she couldn’t do this or couldn’t be that had nurtured a stubborn streak. It and pure will had propelled her from less-than-humble beginnings to this Georgetown estate tonight. What she knew of Tim Bellamy—along with seeing him in the flesh, so to speak—kept her rooted to the spot, curious, needy for more. She trailed her fingertips over the polished mahogany banister, imagining she was touching the hard planes of his chest, his strong arms, his cock stiffened for her alone.
God, he was something.
In his early thirties, he wore his dark blond hair cropped short on the sides with a bit of length at the top. After a few minutes of bed play, those thick locks would surely tumble over his forehead. His eyes were gray, his features masculine, downright aristocratic, a strong jaw and rich mouth. The kind a long-ago ruler might have owned, his deep baritone equally impressive as he ordered his newest concubine…an untried virgin…to pleasure him or else.
On a quiet sigh, Catherine leaned against the rail, drinking him in.
Despite his blond hair and ashy eyes, his complexion was a healthy bronze, as though he’d recently spent time in sun-drenched climes rather than the District’s dreary winter. It wasn’t hard to imagine him naked on a beach, his lean, muscled body flexing with each step he took across the sand, or him riding a horse bareback, his strong thighs hugging the animal, the breeze tugging his hair.
A wave of warmth radiated from Catherine’s chest to her face. She gripped the rail, unable to pull her attention from him.
His expensive tux draped his frame perfectly. He was a tall man. Six-two according to the dossier the agency had on him. One she’d gone through repeatedly, drooling over his photos, impressed by his education and that he’d turned his back on his family’s business to carve out a career of his own. Not only had he succeeded in that endeavor, those on the Hill respected him. Whether his stand on issues was popular or not, he was a man others knew would never go back on his word. He never promised what he couldn’t deliver. He didn’t lie.
Catherine liked that and wished she could say the same about herself, rather than watching him like some sicko voyeur. It was all she was allowed and it wasn’t nearly enough.
