Hana's Handyman Nails It!

Happy Halloween Everyone! There will be no tricks today, only treats!

I have a treat for you. Tessie Bradford has a new release today and it’s wonderful. “Hana’s Handyman” is part of the Resplendence Publishing Gem series. A Gem is a quick, steamy read for a bargain price. I’m addicted to these tasty little reads as a perfect late night treat before bed and I heartily encourage you to try one!

“Hana’s Handyman” is an erotic fantasy for grown-ups. Hana is a savvy homeowner who needs some help with her fixer-upper.

She hires a handsome handyman named Sam who’s not only competent at his job, he’s also highly appreciative of a sexy woman his own age.

This short story is beautifully written, completely believable and very steamy. I loved Hana and Sam. By the end of the story I was very happy for Hana that she allowed Sam to lay some new pipe for her and nail her floorboards. I’m totally sold on the idea of inviting a sexy man into my home to fix everything.

I highly recommend Hana’s Handyman and it’s available today from Resplendence Publishing!

This is Tessie Bradford’s Resplendence page:

Want more treats from Tessie Bradford? Leave a comment and your email address and you will be entered to win a free ebook of Bradford’s ménage shape-shifter Gem “Emily’s Destiny”! We’ll pick a winner tomorrow.

Here’s another Halloween treat, Peter Murphy, Trent Reznor and TV On the Radio performing “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” at a sound check.

Happy Halloween!

Too many ideas, too little time!

Aside from the fact that I keep buying books that clog up my iPad faster than hair in my sink drain (blech!) I am crazy with work.
And it is not even the holidays.
And we are expecting our first grandchild (and I cannot stop buying baby clothes for which I need a 10 Step Program!)
I am trying to finish a new novel.
I have a new puppy.
I love to cook each night.
I have committed to going to the gym more often...just so I can drink wine at night...and stay in some sort of shape!
I have 5 blogs to keep up with.
Promotion on Loops. (They grow like Topsy!)
I have trouble keeping my EXCEL spreadsheets up to date.
I can and do spend money on people and things I love. (See previous note on buying baby clothes!)
 Also add please:

  • luncheons with friends. (DESIREE HOLT, you know who you are!)
  • new lingerie (another 10 Step required here, please send meeting times!)
  • dinner parties with friends (neighbors, political pals and whomever would like to come on over!)
  • all the volunteer work I am doing during this political campaign! (No need to send a 10 STEPPER over for this addiction. I am incurable. Had it since my mother, who was a Republican, took me to stuff envelopes for her candidate when I was 8 years old—and my DAD, who was a Democrat, took me to his own local meetings for the great speeches. And then I worked at the DNC Hdqtrs. in Washington. So did hubby. Yeah. Do not bother trying to cure me here...but I will be awake all night until The Announcement Nov. 7 early a.m.)
Come visit me at www.cerisedeland.com where you will learn what I do when I do not do the above.
Ciao!
Yep, these are my newest!
ENJOY!

Autumn Movies, Argo and Sky Fall 007

I love autumn and one of the prime reasons is the movies get good again.

Don’t get me wrong I love taking our son and a few other 12-year-old boys to see “The Avengers” for the second time, or any of the other summer popcorn movies at a discount matinee, but by autumn I want my turn to choose the movie. I want a movie date with my husband to see something, anything that isn’t necessarily kid oriented.

It’s getting easier, our son was actually the one who insisted we see “Argo” this weekend and I have to say he made a great choice. We loved Argo. Ben Afflect has redeemed himself in my eyes. The movie is understated and played close to the chest. It never devolves into easy melodrama. Though the threat of violence is always present, it’s the tension and absence of trust between a few of the players in the story that will have you nibbling your fingernails.

This is not a flashy action movie. It’s grounded, low key and perfectly paced. The attention to detail is excellent. Ben Afflect looks like a super sexy swinger with his shag haircut and trim beard. With the exception of a few dramatic license conversations, this movie could be a docudrama.

If you see Argo be prepared to remain in your seat at the end. A few of the most poignant photos and bits of information come well into the end credits.

Next week we are meeting friends to see Cloud Atlas as a group. This movie looks really interesting and I think I understand the premise, but I’m going to go with an open mind and just enjoy it.

After that is autumn’s jewel in the crown, her majesty’s crown that is—007!
I’m a huge Bond fan; some might say a fanatical Bond fan.  007 has always been part of my life and through thick and thin I depend on the Broccolis to deliver my Bond to me.

I’ll admit I wasn’t crazy about the last dreary Bond film, Quantum of Solace. Excessive violence against women and endless rape/beating scenes are not my idea of 007 fun. Ian Fleming would have hated it. If anyone was due a beating it was Bond. Without doubt both the character Bond and most likely Fleming himself were/are rip-roaring masochists.

Nearly every Fleming book ends or begins with Bond skirting death and being admitted or released from the hospital. Daniel Craig’s debut in Casino Royale was in my opinion the ultimate match of Fleming’s vision of Bond and all that the Broccolis had brought to the 007 franchise over the years. The only detail out of step was Craig’s blond hair, but what the hell, Daniel Craig nailed every other 007 detail to the wall—where it will remain untouched by all other Bond actors for another generation.

The torture chair scene in Casino Royale sums up Bond’s core personality. Bond can take a beating—Bond expects a beating and when all is stripped away from him to the point when anyone else would be broken, he is at his best and his indestructible core is exposed.

That’s why the super villains can’t simply kill Bond without making a tremendous fuss. They have to torture Bond first and take him to that place where they can catch a fleeting glimpse of Bond’s indestructible strength. That steel core is something we all wish to possess. It’s also a beautiful example of topping from the bottom.

I wish I were a Bond girl. I’d take the short but exciting ride. Every woman in Fleming’s books was an adult who had already been around the block with men far worse than Bond. In fact Bond plays the archetypal white knight to most of the women he rescues and is later dumped by them. All the Bond girls are sophisticated enough to know what they are getting into. They say yes to a moment of pleasure with a dangerous man but they don’t try to keep or tame him. Smart women.

Do know what Fleming wrote as Bond’s retirement dream? If you know, write it in the comment box and I’ll be very impressed.

PS. I did buy a couple OPI 007 Sky Fall collection nail polishes this week. In real life several of colors were odd and poorly named. “Sky Fall” is the exact color of uncooked liver… No thank you.

My favorite polish was “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” which is an iridescent pewter embedded with tiny flecks of holographic rainbow glitter. I can’t afford an Aston Martin but I can have an Aston Martin paint job on my fingertips!

The Zombie Duckies were a HUGE success...

I took about a zillion...and came home with six...
And a good time was had by all...

I only go to one convention each year, because I cannot afford more than that. I go to Romanticon because I have many friends who attend, and it is a wild party thrown by my publisher, Ellora's Cave. I enjoyed meeting new friends and old friends. And I certainly enjoyed the festive atmosphere, the great workshops, the Cavemen, and the excellent hotel.

I uploaded over 180 photos to my Facebook album called "Romanticon 2012" so feel welcome to come on over and look...you just might be in there!

I had so much fun talking with new friends, renewing old friendships...signing all four books that I finagled readers into buying by telling them to go find Georgio and have him sign their books, too. (I know...totally shameless)...and so on.  Some authors had half a dozen different print books on their table...I had one. I guess I'd better get my fanny in gear and write a lot more.

Thanks to Cris Anson for being my roomie again this year...and to Laurann Dohner for being so kind...and of course thanks to Jaid Black for being the great boss she is.

Please go over and look over the photos.  Just click on the link above.

Hugs!

I Love October!

Here in southeastern Michigan, the fall colors are in full bloom! Vibrant orange and red leaves share space with yellow and still green ones. So far the temps continue to be mild, and sitting outside, especially in the early evening, is a favorite past time of mine. I love watching the huge, billowy clouds travel across the sky and listening to the leaves rustle in the wind.

Last week my daughter and I enjoyed a very Halloweeny experience - we were in the 25th row at the Rob Zombie/Marilyn Manson Twins of Evil concert!!! It was at an outdoor theater, on a blustery and rainy night.

What I haven't done yet  is figure out what my costume will be this year!? Dressing up is expected at my office, and since I volunteered to be in charge of the luncheon food, showing up in a lame outfit is not an option. Last year I completely copped out by dressing all in black and donning a witch hat with stringy purple hair. Before that, I was Heather from the Blair Witch Project, and despite my attention to every tiny detail, only a few people understood who I was. I love doing ultra-gore, but my boss has forbidden me to repeat anything close to my 'slasher victim' and 'going through the windshield in a car accident' costumes - apparently those seated across from me had difficulty eating their lunch!

I'm going to do some Googling and probably hit a costume store this weekend, but I welcome any suggestions!

Have a wonderful weekend~

Code Word "Sky Fall"

Felix Baumgartner stratosphere jumper extraordinaire accomplished the unimaginable this past weekend. He dropped 24 miles from the edge of space, traveling at blistering speeds that at times exceeded the sound barrier, lost it in a harrowing free tumble, and ended the drama gracefully by lightly stepping onto the hard packed earth of Roswell New Mexico as if he were stepping off a curb.  He made it look easy. Go Felix! This was adventure at the ragged edge and exactly the kind of thing that makes me proud to be human.

For all those Right Stuff buffs out there, October 14 is also the day Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier in the X-1, which was basically a fuel-laden missile with his wife’s nickname “Glamorous Glennis” painted on the side.

The next Sky Fall mention is of the dashing, dangerous 007 kind. Bond is back! Daniel Craig is back! Need I say more? The sale of MGM put the Bond franchise in limbo for a couple of years but Bond 23 or Sky Fall looks like the Broccoli’s are back in business for the foreseeable future. This Bond looks great. Thomas Newman did the score and the snips I’ve heard are gorgeous, classic Bond. You can visit the official site and hear a little for yourself.  Of course Adele’s Sky Fall is lovely! I’ve been playing it a lot.

As a few of you know, I’m a nail polish fanatic. I believe nail polish is powerful and fun form of feminine self-expression.  I love nail polish and I love 007 so what do you think happens when the two come together? I start screaming and driving around town hunting it down that’s what!

OPi just introduced the new Sky fall Collection. There are some beauties in this bunch.
Shade Spotlight: The Living Daylights  This multi-hued glitter lacquer is simply stunning. The large glitter flakes go on sparse and look like city lights when layered over a dark blue hue.

The shade Sky Fall is actually a rich burgundy with a slight hint of bronzy iridescence. It’s stunning. One of the Bond girls has a fabulous manicure of Sky Fall on top and gold painted on the back of her nails. The gold flashes as she moves her hands.

Have a wonderful week! I'm finishing a WIP for Ellora's Cave and getting ready for another rip-roaring NANO this November 1st.

TIE ME DOWN to a shibari master? I volunteer!

http://www.jasminejade.com/m-560-cerise-deland.aspx

Rancher Case Turner is a shibari master who prefers his partners submissive, silent and lush. When he meets and outspoken, curvy lawyer from Austin, he's wild to capture the colorful creature he calls his butterfly. Hischo. Yearning to tie her up nice and tight...and defy the single men's rule in Bravado to share the desirable women, Case plans to keep Samantha Marlowe all for himself.

Sam has a big, bad aversion to Dominants, so resisting Case's magnetism seems like a wise idea.        Yet Case, who usually binds his women to him in erotic public exhibitions, lures her with sweet-talk and humor. Case become the lover Sam told herself she'd never have—kind and tender.
But Case wants to tie up her heart as well as her body—and she's ready to bolt. Only if Case puts his heart on the line as well, she might admit there's no rope stronger than love to tie her down.

At Romanticon!

So much to see...so much to do!
Meet Caveman Justin! They say that good things come in small packages...and in his case, they are soooo right! Just about my height...sexy, cuddly, and athletic. I tried to pack him up to our room (Cris Anson and I were roomies) but he'd already heard about us, and he fought too hard to escape. Darn.

Can you say "Tall, blue-eyed and gorgeous"?

Ryan hails from South Africa and has the hottest accent...sort of a cross between Aussie and Cajun. A bit taller and heavier...(I wouldn't be able to squash him).

And then there is Christian...huge and hunky...

And the cover model for Licking Her Wounds. His favorite pose is a wide-stance with crossed arms. And boy, are those arms powerful!  Here is the cover for a quick comparison...

It's always fun to talk to the guys who grace our hot covers...

Had a blast!  Check out my Facebook pages for 180 photos from Romanticon!

Amber and I are at Read 2 Review today with a spotlight interview. Please drop by and leave a comment if you can.

Also "Claimed By Dragons" will be starting three virtual book tours later this month with Coffee Beans and Love Scenes.

Didn't Liz at Coffee Beans and Love Scenes make a gorgeous banner? I love it.

Then we'll make the rounds with the lovely Roxanne Rhoads' Bewitching Book Tours

And then we tour with BTS Book Trailer Showcase. "The Strix" is currently touring with BTS.
BTS has just partnered with Barnes & Noble. Big news for them and great news for any autor needing promo.

There will be prizes and lots of varied excerpts on this tour so please follow along. I’ll be posting updates here and on Facebook. I try to answer every comment because I love them!

Speaking of Facebook. I completely ignored Facebook for several years and just the other week reopened my page. I’m hooked again and spending too much time there. I would love to hear from you. Please friend and share whatever you like. If it’s romance author and reader friendly I’ll share it.
