New Year's Day

New Year’s Day is one of my favorite days of the year. Absolutely nothing happens at my house and I love the sense of peace. New Year’s Day feels like a clean slate. If my goals from the previous year were not achieved-who cares? I revise my goals. I always make some modest goals that can be implemented by February and at least set in motion.

January is my favorite time of year to do something new and beneficial to my health and my family’s health. I try to add something to my regime that makes me feel like I’m adding to the quality of life. This is a great time to learn and try healthier recipes, get more sleep or get out doors more often with my family for some natural light.

It’s also time to let go of things. If its not beautiful, useful or necessary-I ask myself should it go to someone else? This goes double for my closet.

My resolutions for this year are:

Enjoy more movies and get out to more live concerts.

Spend more time being silly and stupid. This is one goal I can easily achieve! Lol

Let people talk but not get caught in their drama. I’ll just enjoy the human drama and be a sounding board.

Be a bit more loving toward people who are hard to love-this goal is abstract because it applies to some folks I’ve never actually met.

Whenever possible give someone else a little encouragement or hope.

Happy New Year everyone! May 2010 be a wonderful year for all of us.

  1. "If its not beautiful, useful or necessary-I ask myself should it go to someone else?" Ahem...remember the things you sent last year because you looked at them and thought of me? They're on their way back - post haste!!! lol
Actually I think your list is a good one - I even had some similar last year with regard to movies, concerts and theatre. In actual fact I only went to three movies and about four concerts. Theatre was forgotten until the end of the year approached and I felt I should at least try. I went to see a production of the Snowman in the National Concert Hall. Loved the film - in fact I watch it every year. What can be said about this production...hmmm..they played the movie in the background while someone sprinkled snow on the stage. But at least I can scratch it off my list right? I'm a great list person so obviously that will be my first task in the New Year - make a list. Hopefully this year I'll make it beyond that point! I started to de-clutter in December. I'm raging now because if I'd waited, I could have put it on the list and scratched it off with great satisfaction! My mother had a great saying - "it's neither use nor ornament" - I vow not to collect such things in future. Other than that I think I'll just adopt and adapt your list. Nice blog. A very Happy, peaceful and prosperous 2010 Katalina!

  2. The National Concert Hall production of the Snowman sounds stunning literally stunning-I would have been bored to tears and attacked the snowman with a hair-dryer, lol
My friend mentioned a terrific Christmas card that summed up the hard lessons of this past year. The card showed a snowman from the back holding two lumps of coal in his hand, saying "Coal-that's all I got?"
The inside of the card showed the snowman setting the lumps of coal against his face and shouting, "I can see!" lol

  3. I'm trying to decide whether or not to quit my day job this next year and devote myself full time to writing. It's a hard decision - I am paid very well for what I do and I like the job security, but I find myself struggling for time. If I didn't have to eat, sleep, shower, do household chores, pay bills and on and on, it wouldn't be a problem!
