I slept all day Saturday...too sick to write a word...

Sometimes we get up on the wrong side of the bed...and sometimes we get up on the wrong side of midnight.

Things are all screwed up. Nothing seems to look right. Everything is upside down or inside out. Ever had one (or ten) of those days?

This is one of those days. It would normally be Cerise's day, but she said we should go ahead and use her days until she got well and was back to her computer. So I am.

I have been sick for about 40 days...since I took my grandson to the doctor to see what we needed to do about his freshly broken nose. He looked sorta like the Wolfman in Out of Her Dreams...bloody and crooked nose, black eyes. The works. He had gone to a street concert and had been popped by another kid's elbow in the "mosh" pit.

Well, I took him to the after hours clinic and saw a doctor. I've known this doctor for over 20 years. He came into the exam room and was coughing. He smiled and said, "I hope I don't get you two sick..."...and then he proceeded to examine the kid, coughing into his hand and so on.

Well...you guessed it...three days later the kid and the grandma are sick with mild bronchitis and a runny nose. My "mild bronchitis" stayed pretty mild for over a month, and then, last week, flared up into a major upper respiratory infection. I went back to the clinic today and yep...who came into the exam room, wearing a surgical mask so he wouldn't get infected? The same doctor.

So I took my antibiotics for my sinus infection and bronchitis, took my cold medicine, and took a putrid-tasting cough syrup with codeine...and crashed for the last twelve hours!

No flu. No pneumonia. Just a bad cold with bronchitis that just won't go away! No high fever. No nothing. But I have coughed so much, my ribs hurt. And I will never let another doctor around me who smiles and says, "Gee...duh..I shore hopes I don't gets ya sick..."

  1. Fran, I hope you start feeling better soon! That totally sucks to come away from the doctor's office with a sickness! There are so many people at my work with the "cough that won't die", we are following - in a very humorous fashion - the governemnt's recommendation of "social distancing". This includes staying 6 feet away from each other, which is a riot since our space is small and we're a very friendly group, we have hand santizer at every desk, and talking on a phone that doesn't belong to you is punishable by death!!

  2. Gosh Fran...I sure know how you feel...I recently recovered after being down for a month and a half of bronchitis, viral infection, sinus issues... sounds like a bad movie :P but I can totally commiserate with you...It will get better soon...but it's rather frustrating waiting to recover completely.

Take care of yourself...get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids... Try some hot tea with lemon...it'll help with dealing with the sore ribs especially if you add a sliver of ginger, a couple of cloves and a little cinnamon stick...microwave it with the spices...strain it out ...steep your tea bag...add some honey...and you're all set.

  3. Fran, I hope you feel better soon. I know how tenacious those respiratory infections can be. One took me down for the count last spring.
Be as good to yourself as you are to everyone else.
    Lots of love.

  7. Just checking in to say that I returned to the same jerk, and advised his assistant to warn him that I was gunning for him. LOL! When he walked in this time, he had a surgical mask over his face. I thanked him for getting me sick, and told him I had been sick for 40 days. He gave me a strong antibiotic for the bronchitis and after seven days, I am alive again! The sinus and lung infections are going away. Hooray!

Thanks so much for all your kind comments! Now quick! The first person who e-mails me and tells me what is messed up about this post will win a freebie! fran.lee.romance@gmail.com
